Tips & Tricks:

Photograph Organization

Sitting down to organize your photographs usually starts out as a fun and exciting project, but can quickly become a daunting task, and potentially create more disorganization and clutter.

Many people have great intentions when buying supplies to scrapbook. However, printed photos are a thing of the past, unless you are decorating your walls. I go to so many clients homes and find myself swimming in empty or half done photo albums that are pending someone to sit down and actually complete them. It is okay if you never get around to it, scrapbooking takes forever. You must possess patience and be without distractions to get one done.

If you like the idea of a scrapbook, but don’t have the time or creativity to do one yourself, you can have your photos printed directly into a book. There are many sites and apps you can use, but Chatbooks is one of my personal favorites. These books are fun to use as coffee table books, plus they are easy to create while still being small and affordable!

If you already have photos printed, but don’t want to scrapbook, there’s another way to make it easy on yourself! Photo boxes are a great way to keep your photos organized without having to spend hours on it. Throw the photos in an appropriately labeled box and be done with it! You don’t have to over analyze photo storage; you just need them to be easy to pull out and reminisce over. There are so many possibilities. You can make one box per family member, a box dedicated to photos that contain all the kids together, a box that contains only photos of you and your significant other, a box for your pet, or even a special event. This is a great way to easily go back and find a particular photo you are looking for.

If the idea of printed photos is not appealing to you, there are many ways to achieve this digitally as well. Of course, there is always the option of saving them to a cloud. However, there is still the chance that something may happen to the cloud and the photos could potentially be lost. Try storing them with an iPhone compatible storage drive. You can access them from your phone, and it’s small and compact — a perfect way to minimize clutter!

Another great way to utilize digital storage is with a digital picture frame. This is great for those who like to display photos within the house, but still like to keep their wall decor to a minimum. You can have a plethora of photos cycling through just the single frame!

While on the topic of digital photos, I would like to highly recommend that anyone who has digital photos stored on a disc to please back the disc up!! My wedding photos were all contained in a single disc and I did not think to back that disc up. So, quite unfortunately, when my home was burglarized a few years back, my wedding photo disc was one of the items stolen, and I lost access to those photos, as the photographer no longer had the original files either.
